Carlos Alcaraz’s quest to win his first Wimbledon crown is still very much alive.
He advanced into the quarter-finals after defeating Matteo Berrettini on Monday.
The Spaniard will look to continue his run this coming Wednesday when he locks horns with Holger Rune in a titanic last-eight clash. Here's a preview of that showdown.
Alcaraz’s road to the quarters
Alcaraz's bid for that coveted first title at the All England Club remains right on track after he defeated Matteo Berrettini 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
It was a gritty performance by Alcaraz, who needed three hours and five minutes to oust the Italian star, according to ATP.
The world No. 1 blasted 35 winners and won 79 percent of his first-serve points in the round of 16.
Next up for Alcaraz is a quarter-final clash with Rune. They have faced each other twice before, with their head-to-head matchup currently tied at 1-1.
This will be their first meeting on grass, though.
For Alcaraz to record the win, he will need to continue his highly-efficient play. He committed just 23 unforced errors in his win in the round of 16.
Rune’s road to the quarters
Rune barged into his first career Wimbledon quarter-final with a stunning 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Grigor Dimitrov on Monday.
It was a remarkable performance from the 20-year-old, who needed three hours and 21 minutes to record the four-set win, per BBC.
Key to the Danish star’s victory was his excellent serve. He won 82 percent of his first-serve points against Dimitrov.

NBAHis occasional forays to the net also paid dividends, as he won 23 of his 33 points there.
The road to the championship will only get harder for the No. 6 seed as standing in his way in the quarter-finals is the reigning US Open champion, Alcaraz.
The No. 1 seed has won his last nine matches on grass, including a title run at the Queen’s tournament last month.
For Rune to record the upset, he needs to improve on his returns. He won 32 percent of his receiving points and converted just two of his nine break-point opportunities against Dimitrov.
