World No. 1, Iga Swiatek’s quest to win her first Wimbledon title is still very much alive.
She advanced into the quarter-finals after beating Belinda Bencic on Sunday.
The 22-year-old will look to continue her run this coming Tuesday when she takes on Elina Svitolina in a mouth-watering last-eight clash. Here's a preview of that showdown.
Swiatek’s road to quarters
The top seed’s bid for that coveted first title at the All-England Club remains right on track after she defeated Belinda Bencic 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-3 in the fourth round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
It was a gritty performance by Swiatek, who needed three hours and three minutes to oust the Swiss star, according to BBC.
Her journey at Wimbledon nearly ended as she had to defend two match points against Bencic at 5-6 down in the second set.
She battled back, however, winning the second set in a tiebreak before taking the third set 6-3.
The Polish star blasted 33 winners and won 75 percent of her first-serve points in the round of 16.
She struggled with her return, though, winning just 37 percent of her receiving points. The world no. 1 converted just two of her nine break-point opportunities in the three-set epic.
Next up for Swiatek is a quarter-final showdown with Svitolina.
They have faced each other just once before, with Swiatek beating Svitolina 6-2, 7-5, in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Rome Masters.
Svitolina’s road to quarters
Svitolina moved into the quarter-finals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships with a thrilling 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9) win over Victoria Azarenka on Sunday.

For the 28-year-old to continue her giant-killing ways against Swiatek, she must find ways to limit her miscues. She committed 40 unforced errors in her win against Azarenka.
Tuesday’s showdown will be the pair’s first meeting on grass.
