Djokovic’s serve hurts Thompson

The 23-time Grand Slam champion blasted 40 winners and won 88 percent of his first serve points against Thompson, per ATP.

That helped Djokovic in this matchup, as his return wasn’t able to hurt Thompson’s serve.

Djokovic won just 32 percent of his receiving points against the Australian, with the No. 2 seed converting two of his five break-point opportunities.

The Serb is looking to win his eighth Wimbledon title. The Calendar Grand Slam is once again in his sights after he won the Australian Open and the French Open this year.

Sinner beats Schwartzman

Sinner advanced to the third round after beating Diego Schwartzman 7-5, 6-1, 6-2, per Reuters. The Italian star needed just two hours and two minutes to secure the second-round win.

The 21-year-old recorded 38 winners and won 81 percent of his first-serve points against Schwartzman.

He won 47 percent of his receiving points against the Argentine, with Sinner converting six of his 10 break-point chances.

Sinner’s best finish at Wimbledon came last year when he reached the quarterfinals. He nearly recorded a major upset, losing in five sets to Djokovic in an epic duel.

Fritz, Kostyuk record comeback wins

Sports Brief also reported on Taylor Fritz and Marta Kostyuk’s matches in the first round of Wimbledon.

Fritz defeated Yannick Hanfmann 6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a match that lasted three hours, one minute.

Kostyuk also booked her place in the round of 64, coming back from one set down to beat Maria Sakkari.
