Fritz survives Hanfmann test

Last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinalist blasted 42 winners and won 71 percent of his first serve points against Hanfmann.

Fritz struggled with his return, though, winning just 32 percent of his receiving points.

The No. 9 seed converted four of his seven break-point opportunities against Hanfmann, per ATP.

The American star will next face Mikael Ymer in the second round.

Kostyuk rallies past Sakkari

Kostyuk advanced to the second round of Wimbledon after beating Maria Sakkari, 0-6, 7-5, 6-2. She needed one hour and 53 minutes to record the comeback win, per WTA.

Kostyuk blasted 16 winners and won 60 percent of her first-serve points in the first round.

She won 44 percent of her receiving points against Sakkari, converting five of her 16 break-point chances.

It was a huge victory for Kostyuk, who recorded her first top-10 win in 15 attempts.

She entered her showdown against Sakkari with a 0-5 record against top-10 players this year.

Sakkari’s woes at the All-England Club continued with the loss. She has yet to reach the second week of Wimbledon in her career.

Murray and Alcaraz both advance

Sports Brief recently reported on Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz’s matches in the first round of Wimbledon.

Murray defeated Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 in a match that lasted two hours and one minute.

Alcaraz also booked his place in the round of 64, beating Jeremy Chardy 6-0, 6-2, 7-5.
