Also in attendance were the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s parents, Robert and Lynette.

Fans gave Federer a hero’s welcome as he entered tennis’ grandest arena, per Daily Mail.

Wimbledon honors Federer

They were the lucky ones as they got to witness a video montage of Federer, which showed the tennis legend through the years, from his first Wimbledon championship in 2003 to his last win at SW19 in 2017.

He was given a standing ovation by the fans following the showing of the montage.

The 41-year-old retired from the sport last September. Coincidentally, Federer’s retirement last year also took place in London.

He competed for the final time at the Laver Cup, teaming up with his great rival Rafael Nadal in the doubles event, per ESPN.

The tribute on Centre Court celebrated Federer’s illustrious tennis career, which officially ended at Wimbledon in 2021 when he lost in the quarter-finals to Hubert Hurkacz.

Federer's dominance on grass

Federer cemented his status as one of the greatest grass-court specialists in the history of tennis.

The Swiss maestro captured 19 titles on grass. He won 10 tournaments at Halle, eight at Wimbledon, and one event at Stuttgart.

Djokovic, Swiatek record easy wins

Sports Brief also reported on Iga Swiatek securing a spot in the second round of Wimbledon 2023.

The Polish star defeated Lin Zhu in straight sets to book a showdown with Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, also advanced to the second round after a 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Pedro Cachin.
