He is ranked number 1 on the ATP rankings as of March 2023. At the BNP Paribas Open in March, a Spanish teenager easily defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev to reclaim first place from Novak Djokovic, who was absent due to not having received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The young player has been moving up the ranks since 2020. He won his first match on the ATP Tour after being given a wildcard to the Rio Open in 2020. He prevailed in his opening match but lost in the next round.

As a qualifier for the Australian Open in 2021, Carlos experienced some early success. He once again advanced to the second round before losing. He won the 2021 Open de Oeiras III shortly after, becoming the first player to enter the ATP top 100. Then, in July, he won the Plava Laguna Croatia Open to claim his first ATP title.

Alcaraz made his deepest run at a Grand Slam after losing in the second round of Wimbledon, reaching the quarterfinals before ending his match due to a leg injury. Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to enter the top 35 by the end of 2021, and he finished the year strong by defeating Sebastian Korda in the Next Gen ATP Finals.

Alcaraz quickly expanded on his success with four victories at the Rio Open, Miami Open, Barcelona Open, and Madrid Open in 2022. Despite making it all the way to the French Open quarterfinals, he ultimately fell to Alexander Zverev.
