The home side ran out 33-31 winners, after Henry Immelman missed a long-range penalty attempt that would have given Edinburgh the win with the last kick of the game.

Minutes before Immelman’s miss, veteran flyhalf Morne Steyn kept his composure to give the Bulls the lead with a penalty in the 77th minute of the game.

As reported by Sport24, Bulls coach Jake White added that it was fitting that Edinburgh didn’t have time to set up a scoring chance because they wasted time throughout the game. White accused the Scottish side of deliberately killing time during the game, meaning they had no more time to benefit from their late penalty.

How did the other South African sides perform?

It was a good weekend for the South African teams in the URC as every one of the four picked up victories, SuperSport reported.

The Cell C Sharks also secured a narrow win as they beat Zebre Parma in Italy, 42-37, while the DHL Stormers overcame Connacht 38-15.

The Lions bounced back from their opening weekend defeat to beat Ospreys 28-27.

Bulls beat Lions at Ellis Park as South African teams look to dominate URC

South Africa's rugby teams will be looking to put in another strong showing as the new season of the United Rugby Championship gets underway.

Last season the Stormers stormed to victory, beating fellow South African side, the Bulls in the final.

The Bulls have already got their first points on the board as they beat the Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday, Sports Brief reported earlier.
