The Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament will be hosted in Cape Town from 9 to 11 September 2022, Good Things Guy reported.

The tournament will feature 24 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams.

South Africa has been dominant in the sevens series thus far and will be looking to carry that over to the World Cup itself. They will face stiff competition, especially from defending champions, New Zealand. The men’s teams to have qualified for the tournament so far are New Zealand, England, South Africa, Fiji, Argentina, USA, France, Korea, Hong Kong and Scotland.

In the women’s event, the Springbok Women’s Sevens side will be joined by defending champions New Zealand, France, Australia, China, Japan and the USA.

South Africa wants to boost women's rugby in the country

SA Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, recently told SuperSport that it was important to prioritise women’s rugby. Erasmus added that SA Rugby wanted to see women’s rugby grow to an extent that it is played from grass root levels right to the international stage.

With so many fans eager to attend the tournament, soccer lovers are hoping that they too will be allowed back into stadiums. The National Football Supporters’ Association (NAFSA) plans to protest the absence of fans from live games by holding demonstrations outside the Orlando Stadium on the day of the Soweto Derby. The Soweto Derby will take place on 5 March when Orlando Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs.

Blitzboks continue flying South Africa's flag as they win yet another trophy in 34 unbeaten match run in Spain

In other Blitzbok news, the South African men's national 7s rugby team underlined its undisputed status as the country's best sports team currently during a tournament in Spain, Sports Brief recently reported.

The Blitzboks blitzed to yet another tournament victory this season on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, winning the Sevilla 7s leg of the tour in Spain. In the process, the team continued its incredible unbeaten run, extending it to a team record 34 matches.

Neil Powell's men swatted aside Australia 33-7 in the final on Sunday night, as reported on Supersport.com. This completed a dream week in Spain according to TimesLIVE, having already won the Malaga 7s tournament last weekend.
