An unnamed English Test rugby player has been arrested on suspicion of the sexual assault of a teenager in Manchester.

The player is said to have been on a night out in the city centre, after which the incident allegedly occurred. The player cannot yet be named for legal reasons.

According to SA Rugby Magazine, the alleged victim had intended to go home from a nightclub with friends, but instead accepted a ride with the suspect. He then drove to a location away from the city centre, where they stayed the night.

The following morning, at around 11am, the homeowner found the girl in a confused state and telephoned 999, as per the Daily Mail.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said:

“Officers were called shortly before 11am on Sunday, 9th January to a report of a sexual assault on a female. A woman in her late teens was reported to have been s*xually assaulted. She is currently being supported by specialist officers."
“A man has been arrested on suspicion of r*pe and a 41-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of administering a substance with intent to cause a sexual offence. Detectives have launched an investigation and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.”

Manchester City defender regains freedom after spending months in prison

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has regained freedom from a British prison after spending over four months in jail.

As reported on Sports Brief, the 27-year old was granted bail by Judge Patrick Thompson at a private hearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday, January 7.

Mendy had spent his Christmas in prison after he transferred to HMP Manchester, better known as Strangeways from HMP Altcourse, Liverpool due to safety concerns.
