Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah secured Ghana's first medal in athletics by winning gold in the women's high jump at the 13th African Games on Tuesday, March 19.
Having previously clinched gold at the 2019 Games in Rabat, Morocco, Yeboah surpassed her own record by clearing a height of 1.90 metres, surpassing her previous jump of 1.84 metres from five years ago.
Despite her remarkable achievement, the 22-year-old athlete has yet to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Although she attempted the qualifying mark of 1.97m, she fell short during her third try at 1.94m, missing the mark by a mere 0.03m, per 3news.

Ghana disappoints in 100m men's, women's final
While Rose's victory brought joy to spectators, her teammates on the track didn't fare as well.
National 100-meter record holder, Benjamin Azamati, and promising sprinter, Barnabas Aggerh, disappointed with fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively. Azamati finished in 10.45 seconds, while Aggerh clocked 10.50 seconds.
In the women's 100-meter final, Mary Boakye also fell short, finishing in seventh place with a time of 11.71 seconds.
However, they would be aiming to bounce back in the 4x100 meter relay, where Ghana is considered a strong contender, especially with the men's team being the defending champions.
