Igali impressed with Nigeria’s wrestlers

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, has applauded the sensational performance of his wrestlers after they claimed six gold medals in one day, Punch reports.

The former Olympic Gold medalist predicted that Team Nigeria’s wrestlers, who he claims are currently the best on the continent, will win more gold medals at the African Games in Ghana.

Igali has also urged Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to reward athletes who excel at the games, just like they did for the Super Eagles after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Abeiku Jackson makes games’ history

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Abeiku Gyekye Jackson won Ghana's first swimming medal at the 2023 African Games in Accra.

The 23-year-old defied the odds that were against him as he claimed the silver medal in the men's 50m butterfly event on Sunday.

Jackson finished closely behind Egypt’s Khalafalla Ali while also surpassing Jaden Eaton from South Africa with a time of 24.23 seconds.
