Preparations for the highly anticipated World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally during Easter 2024 are in full swing, overcoming previous organizational challenges.
The Kenyan government has successfully addressed the issues that initially delayed the launch of preparations for the March event.
Scheduled to occur from March 28 to 31, 2024, around Nairobi and Naivasha, the Safari Rally returns to its traditional Easter date on the WRC calendar.
As the one-year term of the Safari Rally’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) concludes on Thursday, January 4, 2024, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba is expected to realign the LOC and grant extended terms to the experienced Secretariat, just 88 days before the rally kicks off.
Rally driver Carl “Flash” Tundo currently chairs the LOC appointed on January 4, 2023, for one year.
In a New Year’s message, WRC Safari Rally CEO Phineas Kimathi thanked Namwamba for leading the preparations. Kimathi assured that Kenya is poised to deliver another world-class rally.
“I’d like to thank the people of Kenya for supporting the WRC Safari Rally, a key part of Kenya’s heritage and a top international sporting event. I thank the government for its continued funding, and I also personally thank President William Ruto for embracing the rally, along with the Sports Cabinet Secretary and his Principal Secretaries for their unwavering support,” Kimathi said as reported by Nation Sport.
Despite time constraints, Kimathi stressed the commitment of the Secretariat to delivering a world-class event for the 2024 WRC Safari Rally.
For the first time in 26 years, the rally has been confirmed as the third round of the 2024 WRC and reverts to its original traditional Easter holiday weekend date.

Inside details of Safari Rally
Sports Brief previously reported on the inside details of Safari Rally 2023 as the World Rally Championship Heads to Naivasha.
As the Kenyan cliche goes, it is time for Subaru boys to shine, get full tanks, one or two for the road for the damsels as they make a beeline to Naivasha - a dusty town about 90 kilometres from Kenya's capital, Nairobi.
This year's event promises more fun and excitement. This will be the third successive year the Safari Rally will take place since its return to the calendar in 2021.
