The couple have known each other since early elementary school in Birmingham, Alabama. It was not until they were both attending Pelham High School that they started dating. The couple ended up attending the University of Alabama together. Kathleen told Greenville Online.

Clay, Drew, and Will, the couple's three sons, all participated in high school football. Will is a freshman at Clemson, playing for his dad's team. Kathleen is involved with the Clemson players and their families outside her primary role as a mother.

3. She lost her sister, Lisa, to cancer

Lisa Lamb, Kathleen's sister, spent her entire life battling cancer. She reportedly overcame cancer in 2003, according to ESPN. In 2009, the cancer returned and metastasized to her brain and lungs. Due to her illness, Lisa passed away in April of 2011.

After what she went through, Kathleen knew she had to find out if she was a carrier by talking to a genetic counsellor. She found out she had a 90% to 99% chance of developing cancer because she shared a gene with her sister, who had the disease.

If Kathleen had not had a double mastectomy, she would have had a 10% chance of developing cancer. A hysterectomy saved her from developing ovarian cancer.

4. Kathleen and Dabo earned master’s degrees at Alabama

They both decided to pursue further academic study at the graduate level at Alabama.

Dabo became a graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide after his playing days were over. Kathleen completed her graduate studies in teaching. Dabo's first job out of college was as a coach, while Kathleen was an elementary school teacher.

5. The couple donated $1 million to Clemson Athletics

The IPTAY initiative at Clemson, which received a $1 million donation from Dabo and Kathleen in 2016, funded several football-related construction projects.

Dabo Swinney and his wife also established the cancer research-focused All In Foundation. The Foundation webpage states the goal is to "raise funds annually for cancer prevention and research with an emphasis on local university research programmes and efforts providing medical screening/testing to local upstate residents."
