Kenyan Javelin legend Julius Yego is not feeling too optimistic ahead of the Tokyo Olympics as he revealed on Friday, July 3 that he has been forced to train by himself.
The postponed Tokyo Olympics will probably be Yego’s last chance to win gold since by the time the next Olympics hit Paris in 2024, he will be 35.
Ahead of the spectacle, Yego shared a disheartening post on his social media where he claimed he was training by himself, without any professional.
This has been the case for most of Yego’s professional career, which has earned him the famous title of “The Youtube athlete”
“So far so good but disappointed that am training solely and lonely, no coach, I think some day in future when am retired some people will be happy that no one like who ‘complain’ is not in the #Team kenya. How I wish things can changed and the future young generations will not be facing these avoidable scenarios. I know God the almighty will see me through this rough path towards Tokyo 2021 Olympics,” he shared on his Facebook.

Yego cemented his place as Africa’s best javelin throwers back in 2016 when he won silver at the Rio Olympics.
His triumph at the time came a year after he became the first Kenyan to win gold at the World Athletics Championships in a field event.

FootballSince 2016, Yego has been plagued by groin and ankle injuries which have hindered him from reaching top level once again and the COVID-19 pandemic was a blessing in disguise for him as it provided more time for recovery.
In June 2020, he did an interview where he narrated his experience of training at home where he still exuded confidence at winning in the upcoming Olympics.
"In my own capacity, training at home under limited resources, I still want to live the dream.
"I will do everything I can to become an Olympic champion, becoming an Olympic champion is my biggest dream, something that always inspires me.” He said as quoted by Insidegames.com.
It is quite ironic that Yego is struggling with training especially because he was appointed to be among the board members of a newly formed association established to safeguard the interests of athletes in the country.
