Binnington joined the Peoria Rivermen in the AHL for the 2011-2012 season but only played one game before returning to the Attack. He was chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. However, he continued to play in the AHL for several teams.

The talented goalie also represented the Chicago Wolves, Providence Bruins, and the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. In November 2014, he was called up by the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League and played 40 games.
