Who are the Gronkowski brothers?

The brothers were born between 1983 and 1993 to former New Jersey Generals football player Gordon Gronkowski (Gordy Snr) and his ex-wife, Diane Walters. Except for Gordon Jr., born in Buffalo, New York, the other brothers were born in Amherst in the same state. While their father, Gordy Snr, pushed the boys into the world of sports, the family matriarch, Diane, handled the children's schooling.

As early as four, the boys began training under the patronage of the family patriarch in their makeshift basement gym. Although none of them played football before the seventh grade, they were good hockey and baseball players.

By the eighth grade, they could lift weights under the watchful eye of Gordon Senior. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the family patriarch revealed that their Amherst home featured a makeshift fitness centre with a multi-stack training machine, a pull-up bar and a bench press in the family basement.

The brothers fought hard to grow their skills in an effort to ensure all five got college scholarships. In the interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Rob spoke of his experience growing up in the household, saying,

“Growing up Gronk is special to me. As kids, we grew up fearless, ready to take on opponents at any time and compete at the highest level possible when giving it our all. We had a lot of fun doing it.”
