He won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 and was a unanimous first-team All-American. Bush was also honoured by the Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C., as their Offensive Player of the Year and the Touchdown Club of Columbus as their Player of the Year, in addition to being named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year.

Bush skipped his final year of college football at USC in 2006. The New Orleans Saints picked him up in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

He had 2,611 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns by the end of the 2005 season. On December 10, 2005, he won the Heisman Trophy.

He is the seventh Trojan to win the Heisman Trophy and the 71st overall. The Heisman Trophy was not the only honour he took home; he also took home the Doak Walker and Walter Camp trophies. He was voted the best offensive player in the Pacific Coast Conference.

Bush and Leinart made history on January 4, 2006, when they faced the Texas Longhorns in the Rose Bowl as teammates for the first time in the game's history. Bush finished with 279 yards on the ground and a touchdown through the air, but Heisman runner-up Vince Young stole the show in a losing effort.
