Leonard Fournette is lucky to still be alive.
The free-agent running back managed to escape his Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat unharmed after the SUV he was driving caught fire while on a Florida highway.
Fournette shared a chilling video of his vehicle’s charred remains, which showed a melted windshield and a completely eroded hood and front grill.
The NFL star recounted his frightening experience on Instagram, writing:
"Man it was one of those days today, but I would like [to] thank God. My car caught on fire while I was driving. But I'am still blessed."
It’s still unclear at this point what caused the sudden combustion.
A spokesperson for Dodge released a statement to Yahoo Sports regarding the incident, saying:
“We’re grateful this customer escaped injury. We have not yet inspected this particular vehicle. Such events are unique, highly complex, and may be caused by circumstances unrelated to vehicle design.”
Fournette's NFL career
Fournette amassed a total of 4,478 rushing yards, 2,219 receiving yards, and 41 touchdowns (34 rushing, seven receiving) in his six seasons in the NFL.
He began his NFL journey with Jacksonville, racking up 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground during his tenure with the Jaguars.
The union didn’t end well, though, with the Jags releasing Fournette just 13 days before the 2020 season opener.
That proved to be a blessing in disguise for Fournette, who was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.
He helped the Bucs during their championship run, recording 300 yards and three touchdowns in Tampa Bay’s four postseason games. They defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

FootballHe was rewarded last offseason by the Bucs, signing a three-year deal with Tampa Bay worth $21 million and up to $24 million with incentives.
Fournette was released last March, however, in a salary cap move, per Fox Sports. He ran for just 668 yards and three touchdowns last season.

He carried Kansas City on his back despite reaggravating his high ankle sprain in the first half of the championship game.
