There’s just no stopping Luka Doncic right now.
He torched the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night, scoring a game-high 44 points in the Dallas Mavericks’ 144-126 win.
The Slovenian made history with that performance, joining LeBron James and Michael Jordan on a very exclusive list.
Doncic joins NBA legends with scoring feat
He became just the third player since the ABA-NBA merger to score at least 40 points 31 times before turning 25 years old.
He did it in style, making 17 of his 21 field goal attempts against the Clippers. Doncic also shot 6 of 9 from beyond the arc and made all four of his free throws, per ESPN.
James Harden’s move to Los Angeles has been a nightmare for the Clippers. They are 0-3 since acquiring the former MVP from the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade.
Doncic racking up monster numbers
Doncic has been on a tear this season, averaging 32.9 points per game on 51.8 percent shooting from the field. He has been lights out from deep, knocking down 41.5 percent of his 3-point attempts, per Sports Illustrated.
He’s been stuffing the stat sheet as well, averaging 8.9 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 1.3 steals through the Mavs’ first nine games.
Dallas is off to its best start in nearly 20 years, posting a 7-2 record. If he continues posting these monster numbers for the Mavs, Doncic is on his way to winning his first NBA Most Valuable Player award.
