Germany's road to the Final

Germany enter the gold medal clash with momentum on their side after recording a massive upset over the United States in their semi-final showdown last Friday.

The Germans were red-hot from deep in that contest, shooting 13 of 30 from beyond the arc.

They showed their depth in the win against Team USA, with six German players scoring in double figures.

Andreas Obst led the way for Germany, scoring a game-high 24 points, per Yahoo Sports.

He made the biggest basket of the night, knocking down a corner three with 1:14 left to give Germany a 111-107 lead.

The Americans were in the midst of a furious fightback before that shot, launching a 13-2 run to cut Germany’s lead to one.

Obst’s fourth 3-pointer of the night proved to be the dagger as the Americans failed to advance to the World Cup final for the second straight time.

Franz Wagner also delivered timely baskets, scoring 22 points against Team USA. Starters Daniel Theis and Dennis Schroder contributed as well for the Germans, scoring 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Mo Wagner and Johannes Thiemann each scored 10 points for Germany, who have yet to lose in this year’s World Cup.

They swept the group stage, beating Japan, Australia, Finland, Georgia, and Slovenia in the first two rounds.

They continued their excellent play in the knockout rounds, beating Latvia in the quarter-finals and Team USA in the semis.

Serbia's road to the Final

Serbia’s quest to win their first World Cup title is still very much alive after they beat Canada 95-86 in the semi-finals on Friday.

Bogdan Bogdanovic carried the scoring cudgels for the Serbs, scoring 23 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field, including 3 of 4 from deep.

He also had four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block in a brilliant all-around performance.

Nikola Milutinov and Ognjen Djobric were the other Serbia starters to score in double figures, each tallying 16 points.

Marko Guduric and Aleksa Avramovic also contributed off the bench, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.

What proved to be the difference in the contest, though, was Serbia’s defense, particularly on Canadian star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

They limited the Oklahoma City Thunder guard to just 15 points in the semis, way below his 30.5 PPG average over his past two games, per FIBA.

Serbia head into the Gold Medal match with a 6-1 record in the tournament, with their only loss coming in the Second Round against Italy.
