Serbia vs. Canada

Schedule: September 8, 8:45 a.m. GMT

Many expected Lithuania to beat Serbia after they went undefeated in the group stage. Momentum was on their side after they recorded an upset win over the United States in their final group match 110-104.

Serbia had other ideas, though. They dominated Lithuania in their quarterfinal matchup, recording an 87-68 win.

Serbia pulled away in the middle quarters, outscoring Lithuania 49-30 during that stretch.

Bogdan Bogdanovic starred for the Serbians, scoring 18 of his 21 points in the first half.

Serbia dedicated their victory to injured star Borisa Simanic, who lost a kidney after getting elbowed in their match against South Sudan.

Next up for Serbia is a clash with Canada. The North American side booked a spot in the semis after beating Slovenia 100-89.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again led the way for Canada, scoring a game-high 31 points.

He also had 10 rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes of action, per Sporting News.

He shot 8 of 12 from the field and 14 of 16 from the free-throw line.

He got some help from fellow NBA player RJ Barrett, who scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

Friday's clash will be the first meeting between Canada and Serbia in the World Cup.

Writer's Prediction: The Canadians (-5.5) win and cover the spread.

USA vs. Germany

Schedule: September 8, 12:30 p.m. GMT

Team USA bounced back strongly after their loss to Lithuania, crushing Italy 100-63 in the quarterfinals.

Three players scored in double figures for the Americans in the rout. Mikal Bridges led all scorers with 24 points. Tyrese Haliburton and Austin Reaves added 18 and 12 points, respectively.

USA will have their work cut out for them in the semis as they will face a German side that remains undefeated in this tournament.

The Germans improved to 6-0 in this year's World Cup after edging past Latvia 81-79 in their quarter-final showdown.

They survived a late rally by Latvia, with Davis Bertans missing a game-winning three-pointer in the dying seconds of the contest.

Franz Wagner led Germany in the narrow win, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight boards.

Germany have never beaten the United States in six previous encounters. Three of those defeats came in the 1986, 2002, and 2006 editions of the World Cup.

Writer's Prediction: The Americans (-9.5) win and cover the spread.
