LeBron James confirmed at the ESPY Awards that he will continue playing for the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

The four-time NBA champion will become the sixth player in league history to play in his 21st season or beyond.

He was surprised to learn, however, that he is not the oldest player in the NBA right now.

Sports Brief looks at the active players who are the oldest in the NBA today.

1. Andre Iguodala

Surprisingly, James is still not the oldest player in the league right now. That honor belongs to Andre Iguodala, who has decided that he won’t be leaving the NBA just yet.

He remains unsigned at this point but still harbors a desire to return for at least one more season.

The veteran forward last played for the Golden State Warriors. He won four championships with them in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.

The first one is the sweetest for Iguodala, as he won Finals MVP in that 2015 series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He is 39 years and 173 days old.

2. LeBron James

The league’s scoring king hinted at retirement following the Lakers’ disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals.

However, he assured fans at the ESPYS that won’t be the case at all, and he will still be donning the purple and gold in the coming season, per ESPN.

James has made no secret of his desire to play with his son Bronny in the NBA. The younger James is an incoming freshman at USC and is projected to be a lottery pick in the 2024 Draft.

That being said, LeBron playing at the age of 40 is not out of the question.

He is 38 years and 202 days old.

3. P.J. Tucker

The third-oldest active player in the NBA is Tucker. He started playing in the NBA in 2006 and remains one of the best defensive players in the league at age 38.

He will be suiting up for the Philadelphia 76ers next season. Tucker has won one championship in his career, helping the Milwaukee Bucks capture the title in 2021.

He is 38 years and 76 days old.

4. Chris Paul

Time is running out for Paul to win that coveted first NBA title. He will be hoping his latest move to the Golden State Warriors will result in a championship in 2024, per Sports Illustrated.

Paul has played 18 seasons in his NBA career, with the veteran guard suiting up for five different teams. He spent the last three seasons with the Phoenix Suns.

He is 38 years and 75 days old.

5. Taj Gibson

Gibson is the fifth-oldest active player in the NBA. He started his professional career with the Chicago Bulls in 2009 and has played 14 seasons in the league since.

He last played for the Washington Wizards in the 2022-23 campaign.

He is 38 years and 26 days old.

Cavs win Summer League title

Sports Brief recently reported on the Cavs winning the Summer League championship.

Isaiah Mobley, Sam Merrill, and Emoni Bates starred in Cleveland's 99-78 win.

They combined for 74 points.
