NBAChet Holmgren Deals With ‘Overrated’ Chants in Summer League Return vs Utah Jazz
- Chet Holmgren made his Salt Lake City Summer League debut against the Utah Jazz
- He played his first competitive game since suffering a Lisfranc injury 11 months ago
- He impressed on both ends of the floor but had to deal with harsh chants from fans
Chet Holmgren finally made his much-anticipated return to the basketball court on Monday, and he didn’t disappoint.
He put up solid numbers in his first competitive game since suffering a Lisfranc injury last year, nearly registering a double-double in his Salt Lake City Summer League debut.
Not all were impressed, though, as some fans inside the arena chanted 'overrated' at the Oklahoma City center near the end of the contest.
Holmgren definitely didn’t warrant that kind of treatment, as he played outstanding basketball against Utah.
Holmgren’s final numbers were impressive, given that he started horribly in this contest.
Holmgren impresses in return
He scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Thunder’s 94-85 win over the Jazz, per ESPN, shooting 6 of 14 from the floor and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line.
He went scoreless in the opening quarter, badly missing a pair of turnaround jumpers and a finger roll layup in the first 12 minutes. He also dribbled the ball off his foot, resulting in a turnover during the first period.
That was expected, though, as Holmgren’s previous game appearance came last August at the Seattle pro-am where he suffered a foot injury.
Holmgren found his groove in the second quarter, scoring 10 of his 15 points during that period. He shot 5 of 7 from the field, punishing the Jazz defense with his unique offensive skillset.
He showed his versatility, with the big man bringing up the ball down the court on several occasions to push the pace for OKC.

FootballHolmgren backed to win ROY
The 21-year-old was also a menace on the defensive end, recording four blocks against the Jazz, per Yahoo Sports.
His most spectacular rejection came against Keyonte George, with Holmgren slamming the Utah first-round pick’s attempt to the floor with both hands.
One guy who was impressed with Holmgren was Thunder guard, Josh Giddey.
The Australian star believes his teammate can win the Rookie of the Year award, placing Holmgren's odds of taking home the honor at 100%.
Lillard wants Miami move
Sports Brief also reported on Damian Lillard requesting a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Dame Time wants to be dealt to the Miami Heat to team up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
This would be huge considering the 32-year-old has played his entire NBA career with Portland.
