The Golden State Warriors sent shockwaves through the NBA after trading for Chris Paul last week just before the 2023 NBA Draft.

The Warriors sent Jordan Poole, Ryand Rollins, Patrick Baldwin Jr., a protected 2030 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round to the Washington Wizards for the veteran point guard, per ESPN.

It was a groundbreaking trade for the 2022 NBA champions, who get an elite but declining point guard they expect to play a vital role as they look to make another run at the championship.

Paul on relationship with Curry

During a recent interview, the 18-year veteran spoke about his relationship with Curry, stating they had known each other for a long time.

"My wife was at his wedding, I think him and his wife were at our wedding. We've known each other for a very long time. I'm excited for a chance to get to play alongside him, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond, all them," Paul said, via Sports Illustrated.

Curry and the Warriors thwarted Paul's NBA title hopes twice in 2018 and 2019.

The point guard averaged a career-low 13.9 points and 8.9 assists for the Phoenix Suns last season across 59 games. Before his trade to the Warriors, he was dealt to the Wizards by the Suns.

Paul has a $30 million expiring contract, and considering his injury record, it will be interesting to see how the Warriors will handle him over the course of the season to get him ready for the postseason.

Steve Kerr explains Paul trade

Sports Brief also reported on Warriors coach, Steve Kerr explaining the Paul trade by admitting the team needed a shift.

It was a difficult season for the team which was affected by Draymond Green's altercation with teammate, Jordan Poole.

“But the biggest point is that we sensed we needed a shift. Didn’t mean we needed an overhaul, but we needed a shift of some sort. I think everybody in the organization sensed that."
