On a scorching day, passionate Spurs fans braved the heat to embrace their new superstar. They waited for hours for the French star to arrive at the Signature North Terminal on Sandau Road.

A private plane carrying the 19-year-old landed before 4 p.m. and got a water shower as it approached the Spurs mascot, the Coyote. Fans had to eagerly wait for the 7-foot-4 star to disembark from the plane.

As he emerged from the plane, he was met with loud cheers from the fans equipped with parasols and huge signs. He strolled to the fence and signed a few autographs. He was then whisked away as they continued to celebrate, per San Antonio Express-News.

Spurs player, who was at the airport to receive Wembanyama, was excited just like the fans.

"Things are very exciting. He's a very exciting prospect," Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan told reporters at the airport. "It's going to be a lot of fun...It shows how much love we want to show to him and that it's a family here and that he has nothing to stress about. It's going to be good," via Deadspin.

Spurs start new era

As expected, the Spurs selected Wembanyama with their No. 1 pick ending weeks of anticipation after winning the draft in May. He is the most hyped prospect since LeBron James in 2003.

He enters the league with a rare combination of skills for his size. He can shoot, dribble, rebound, and block shots. His arrival is expected to rejuvenate a Spurs team that has been in the wilderness after missing the playoffs four seasons in a row, per CBS Sports. Many Spurs are expecting him to lead them to their 6th NBA title.

Can he take Gregg Popovich's side back to NBA glory?

How much will Wembanyama make?

Sports Brief earlier broke down Wembanyama's potential salary for the 2023/24 season. He is expected to earn as much as $12.2 million in his first season.

Based on salary cap projections ($136 million), the young French phenom's on-court earnings could be as much as $55.2 million over the next four years.

Wembanyama could make way more from his off-court deals. He is a Nike athlete and could add a few endorsement deals ahead of his rookie season.
