Amen and Ausar Thompson made history on Thursday night inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The identical twins became the first brothers to be selected in the top 5 of the same NBA Draft.
Commissioner Adam Silver announced Amen’s name first, with the Houston Rockets selecting him with the No. 4 pick in the draft.
It didn’t take long for Silver to announce the other Thompson twin, with the Detroit Pistons selecting Ausar with the fifth overall pick in the draft.
Thompson twins make history
According to ESPN, they are the first brothers to accomplish that feat in the same draft since the 1976 ABA-NBA merger.
The Thompson twins also joined LaMelo and Lonzo Ball as the only brothers to both get selected in the top 5 in a draft in the modern era.
The Los Angeles Lakers selected Lonzo with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 Draft while LaMelo landed with the Charlotte Hornets as the third overall pick of the 2020 Draft.
Thompson brothers starred for Reapers
Amen and Ausar both played for the City Reapers last season in the Overtime Elite league, where they nabbed OTE titles.
Amen averaged 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.3 steals per game during the 2022-23 campaign, per Sports Illustrated.
He will join a Rockets team that finished 22-60 last season while ranking 29th in defensive efficiency (118.6) and 27th in offensive efficiency (110.5).
Ausar was named OTE MVP after averaging 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for the Reapers last season.

Wemby goes to San Antonio
Sports Brief recently reported on the San Antonio Spurs selecting Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft.
He became San Antonio's third No. 1 overall pick, joining Tim Duncan and David Robinson on the exclusive list.
Wembanyama averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game last season for Metropolitans 92, leading LNB Pro A in each of those statistical categories.
