NBAKyle Kuzma Reportedly Becomes a Free Agent After Declining $13M Player Option
- Kyle Kuzma has reportedly declined his player option with the Washington Wizards
- The forward will now become a free agent ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season
- Kuzma posted career-high numbers in scoring with the Wizards last campaign
Kyle Kuzma has decided to enter the free agency market.
The Washington Wizards forward has reportedly declined his $13 million player option for the 2023/24 season and will become a free agent.
Teams are expected to battle for Kuzma’s services after he posted career-high scoring numbers with the Wizards last season.
While the 27-year-old has yet to make an All-Star team, he is one of the best players to hit free agency this summer.
Kuzma delivered last season
He averaged 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game for Washington last campaign, per ESPN.
Kuzma told reporters back in April that he’d consider playing for the Wizards again next season.
Washington has been his home since the 2021-22 campaign. He spent four seasons and won a championship with the Lakers before he was shipped to the Wizards as part of the Russell Westbrook trade.
Plenty of changes in Washington
A lot has changed since Kuzma made that statement, though, with some key personnel from the Wizards organization now gone.
The franchise fired general manager, Tommy Sheppard, after another disappointing season and hired former Clippers general manager, Michael Winger, to be the next president of Monumental Sports.
Winger was given the authority to reshape the organization, and he did just that days ago, trading Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns to get rid of his max contract, per Sports Illustrated.
Kuzma told reporters back in April that his goal in free agency is to go somewhere where he can be the best version of himself. He added that it was not about money for him, as he is going to get paid regardless.
