Welcome to the United States, Victor Wembanyama.
The plane carrying the French superstar touched down at Newark International Airport on Monday.
All eyes were on Wembanyama, who is widely expected to be selected first overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 NBA Draft this coming Thursday.
Fans welcome Wembanyama at airport
He arrived at the airport just outside New York City to much fanfare, with the teen phenom getting his first taste of NBA stardom.
Wembanyama was surprised by the turnout of fans, who managed to find out when his plane was landing.
He didn’t mind spending time with his fans even after the long flight, gladly signing autographs on various items they brought, from basketballs to Spurs jerseys with his name already on the back, per ESPN.
Hectic week for French star
It is the start of a very hectic week for Wembanyama, who is expected to appear on Wednesday at a pre-draft media availability session.
He will be front and center at the draft on Thursday before likely appearing in San Antonio, Texas, sometime on Friday to meet his future home fans.
His basketball activities will then ramp up this coming summer. His participation in the inaugural NBA Con in Las Vegas, Nevada, scheduled for July 7 to 9, has already been announced.
That is also the start of the summer league in Vegas, so Wembanyama seeing action in that competition is still possible.
He has also announced his intention to play for France in the upcoming Basketball World Cup, which will take place in the Asian countries of the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from late August to September 10.
He will then report back to San Antonio after the competition to start his preparation for the Spurs’ much-anticipated 2023-24 NBA season.

FootballBradley Beal goes to Phoenix
Sports Brief recently reported on Bradley Beal going to Phoenix in a blockbuster trade.
Beal will join Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton in the Suns' vaunted starting lineup.
The star-studded Suns have a problem with their depth, though, as they only have six players under contract once the Beal trade pushes through.
