FootballDepth a Major Concern for Phoenix Suns After Bradley Beal Trade With Wizards
- The Phoenix Suns have acquired Bradley Beal in a trade with the Washington Wizards
- Beal will join a Suns team that already has Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton
- The Suns have a problem with depth following the Beal trade with the Wizards
The Phoenix Suns made a huge splash on Father’s Day, landing three-time All-Star, Bradley Beal in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards.
The Suns are finalizing a deal to send guards Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, several second-round picks, and a handful of pick swaps to the Wizards for Beal.
It was a major coup for the Suns, who didn’t have to surrender star center Deandre Ayton in the trade.
They now have a fearsome foursome for next season, with Beal joining Ayton, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker in the Suns’ starting lineup.
Phoenix Suns' depth concerns
That being said, depth is still a significant concern for Phoenix.
The Suns know having four stars isn’t enough to build a championship team.
They witnessed that firsthand this past season. Led by Booker, Paul, Durant, and Ayton, they lost in six games to eventual champions Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs.
According to Spotrac, as of Sunday, the Suns have only seven active contracts on the team for the 2023-24 season. Two of those players are the departing Paul and Shamet.
Suns players under contract
Once the trade pushes through, the only players on the Suns' roster under contract apart from Beal, Booker, Durant, and Ayton are point guard Cameron Payne and Ishmail Wainright, per Bleacher Report.
The Suns' best hope to surround their four stars with quality bench players is for veterans looking for a chance to win a championship to sign on minimal deals.

FootballSports Brief recently reported on Giannis Antetokounmpo receiving a signed jersey from soccer superstar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The 41-year-old football icon, who announced his retirement earlier this month, sent the Greek Freak a signed AC Milan jersey.
Ibrahimovic returned to AC Milan for a second spell in 2019 but only played four games in the 2022-23 season because of injury. Antetokounmpo congratulated him after he retired with a lovely tweet.
