Victor Wembanyama's season in France's LNB Pro A championship is over after his team, Metropolitans 92 were beaten in the best-of-five finals series.

The young Frenchman is the No. 1 prospect in the 2023 NBA Draft, which will take place next week on June 22.

Wembanyama's team lost Game 3 to Monaco 92-85, who won the series 3-0. Days after finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in Game 2, the 19-year-old had 22 points and four blocks in Game 3, which wasn't enough to stop league-leading Monaco.

Monaco trailed by seven points entering the fourth quarter, but they outscored Metropolitans 92 by 14 in the fourth quarter to emerge victorious and lift their first LNB championship, per ESPN.

Wembanyama to go No. 1?

San Antonio Spurs won the Draft Lottery last month and are set to select the 7-foot-4 big man 1st in the upcoming draft. The Frenchman has been touted as one of the greatest prospects in history.

The obvious reason is his incredible talent. He can shoot, handle, pass, and his athleticism allows him to be a presence on the defensive side of the ball. He has been compared to established superstars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, per USA Today.

There's optimism from Spurs fans as the draft edges closer. Wembanyama will be the franchise's third No. 1 pick.

In 1987, they selected David Robinson, and the second was in 1997, when they chose Tim Duncan. Each of those two went on to become MVPs and champions with the Spurs, and Wembanyama could do the same.

Kylian Mbappe meets Wembanyama

Sports Brief recently reported on Kylian Mbappe watching Wembanyama play ahead of the NBA Draft Lottery.

The football icon showed support for the projected NBA top draft pick in his last regular season game in France.

Wembanyama put on a show in front of Mbappe, recording 22 points and 9 rebounds in the Mets’ 93-85 victory.
