After months of intrigue, the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery was finally done, with the San Antio Spurs getting the first pick in next month's draft and earning a chance to select French phenom, Victor Wembanyama.

Parker was a key player in the Spurs dynasty, helping them reach five NBA finals in 17 seasons with the team.

The 41-year-old also owns ASVEL Basket, a French league team Wembanyama played for during the 2021-22 season.

The French Phenom is one of the highest-rated prospects since LeBron James, and many experts believe he has the chance to become one of the greatest players of all time, per SB Nation.

Wembanyama on Spurs connection

When he realized Spurs would get the first pick, there were celebrations not only in San Antonio but in France.

The 19-year-old explained why he was glad the Spurs won the lottery.

"There's a special relation between France and the Spurs because of Tony [Parker] of course, and also Boris [Diaw] I know half of the country, if not the whole country, wanted the Spurs to have the first pick. So I was looking at everyone and everyone was happy, so I was too," Wembanyama said, via CBS Sports.
"The universe told me. Dreams, feelings, it happens sometimes, but it's never wrong, it's always right," he added.

After the Draft Lottery was done, Parker posted a picture of a young Wembanyama in a Spurs jersey, per SI.

The Spurs have had other No. 1 picks before. The first was in 1987, when they selected David Robinson, and the second was in 1997 when they chose Tim Duncan.

They went on to win the NBA title and cement their legacies as being among the best players in NBA history.

Kylian Mbappe meets Wembanyama

Sports Brief recently reported on Kylian Mbappe watching Wembanyama play ahead of the NBA Draft Lottery.

The football icon showed support for the projected NBA top draft pick in his last regular season game in France.

Wembanyama put on a show in front of Mbappe, recording 22 points and 9 rebounds in the Mets’ 93-85 victory.
