The Golden State Warriors moved one step closer to advancing to the second round of the 2023 NBA playoffs after beating the Sacramento Kings in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead.

Stephen Curry was delighted his team pulled off a crucial 123-116 win at Golden 1 Center on Wednesday.

The decline of the Warriors dynasty looked dead and buried in Games 1 and 2, but the reigning NBA champions took charge of the series by winning three straight games.

Everyone expected the Golden State to lose Game 5 because of their dreadful road record in the regular season. In Game 5, they refused to go down and produced a professional performance.

Their core showed why they have won four NBA titles in the last eight years. Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all scored 20+ points, with Andrew Wiggins adding 20 points.

Curry, Wiggins, and Thompson all made tough clutch shots to seal the win. Curry had 31, Thompson added 25, and Green scored 21 from the bench, per the Athletic.

Curry on Warriors' road win

Curry was delighted the team got a road win, especially since they have struggled away all season.

"It's one of the best feelings in basketball, figuring out a way to win in a hostile environment. As the lower seed, winning on the road is a big deal. It's hard to do... Big night for us, and you could feel the sense of accomplishment," he said, per ESPN.

Steve Kerr's team has now won at least one road game in 28 consecutive playoff series, which is an NBA record. Curry said they had the belief they could win in a hostile environment.

"We had the belief that we could win a game like tonight," Curry said. "All the disappointment of the regular season, the first two games of this series, we didn't have much to show for that belief."

The Warriors will look to close the series at Chase Center on Friday night.

Thompson's message to Curry

Sports Brief earlier reported on Thompson sending a heartfelt message to his teammate, Curry after they won Game 4 at home.

The Splash Brothers have played 12 full seasons together in the NBA. Most of that time has brought great success and some agony.

They have won four NBA titles and a plethora of individual awards, with Thompson saying he appreciated the hard work Curry put in.
