Before the 2023 NBA playoffs officially begin on April 15, four teams from each conference will participate in a Play-In tournament.

This will help determine the seventh and eighth seeds in the Eastern and Western Conferences.

When is the Play-In?

The 2023 Play-In Tournament will take place from April 11 to 14, with the games played after the regular season concludes and before the first round of the NBA Playoffs begins.

Who are the participants?

The participants will be the NBA teams with the seventh-highest through the 10th-highest winning percentages in each conference.

The No. 7 Los Angeles Lakers, No. 8 Minnesota Timberwolves, No. 9 New Orleans Pelicans, and No. 10 Oklahoma City Thunder will compete in the Western Conference bracket.

The No. 7 Miami Heat, No. 8 Atlanta Hawks, No. 9 Toronto Raptors, and No. 10 Chicago Bulls will battle in the Eastern Conference bracket, per NBA.com.

How the tournament works

The team with the seventh-best record in its conference will host the team with the eighth-best record in the same conference.

The winning teams in these games will be the seventh seed in the NBA Playoffs for their respective conferences.

The Miami Heat hosted the Atlanta Hawks, while the Minnesota Timberwolves traveled to California to face the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Hawks defeated the Heat 116-105, while the Lakers edged past the Wolves 108-102 in overtime on April 11.

Atlanta claimed the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with the win. The Hawks will next face the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

The Lakers clinched the seventh spot in the Western Conference following their win over the Wolves. They will next face the Memphis Grizzlies in a best-of-seven series.

Heat and Wolves are alive

The losers of these No. 7 vs. No. 8 games are still alive. The Heat and the Wolves will face the No. 9 vs. No. 10 winners in their respective conferences to determine the eighth seed in the playoffs.

In the Eastern Conference, No. 9 Toronto Raptors will host the No. 10 Chicago Bulls. In the Western Conference, the No. 10 Oklahoma City Thunder will travel to Louisiana to face the No. 9 New Orleans Pelicans.

These two games will occur on April 12, with the losers eliminated from playoff contention. The winners of these matchups will get to live another day.

The winner of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 game in the East will travel to Florida to face the Miami Heat. The winner of the West's No. 9 vs. No. 10 matchup will square off with the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road.

These two games will take place on April 14, with the winners clinching the eighth seed in their respective conferences. The losers of these matchups are eliminated from playoff contention.

Bucks and Nuggets are waiting

The Eastern Conference Play-In game winner will face No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.

The Western Conference Play-In game winner will lock horns with No. 1 seed Denver Nuggets in a best-of-seven series.

Lakers outlast Wolves in OT

Sports Brief recently reported on the Lakers winning their Play-In game against the Timberwolves.

LeBron James scored 30 points to lead Los Angeles to an overtime victory over Minnesota.
