Damian Lillard’s 2022-23 NBA season is reportedly over after the Portland Trail Blazers shut him down for the rest of the campaign due to his calf injury.

He is set to miss the NBA Playoffs for the second consecutive season, with the Blazers languishing in 13th place in the Western Conference.

Lillard’s title bid may have ended in disappointment, but he did provide some outstanding performances this season.

Sports Brief takes a look at the players who scored the most points in an NBA game this campaign.

Damian Lillard (71 points)

Lillard was simply unstoppable in the game against the Houston Rockets on February 26, scoring a career-high 71 points in the 131-114 win. He broke his franchise record of 61 points with that performance.

Lillard was lights out from deep in that contest, hitting a career-best and franchise-record 13 3-pointers. He was electric right from the start, scoring 41 points and hitting eight treys in the first half.

Donovan Mitchell (71 points)

Lillard wasn’t the first NBA star to score 71 points in a game this season. That honor belongs to Mitchell, who torched the Chicago Bulls on January 2.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star posted his new career-high in their 145-134 overtime win. Mitchell scored 55 of his 71 points in the second half and overtime as he led the Cavs to a stunning comeback victory.

He also had 11 assists and eight rebounds against the Bulls. He became the first player to record at least 70 points and ten dimes in a game.

Luka Doncic (60 points)

Doncic put on a show against the New York Knicks on December 27, becoming the first player in NBA history to record a 60-point, 20-rebound triple-double.

He finished the game with 60 points, 21 rebounds, and ten assists. The Slovenian star was a one-man wrecking crew as he led the Mavs to a stunning 126-121 overtime win.

This was the first 60-point game in franchise history.

Damian Lillard (60 points)

Before he dropped 71 against the Rockets, Lillard exploded for 60 points in a 134-124 win over the Utah Jazz on January 25. He achieved that feat on just 29 shot attempts and ten free throws.

The seven-time All-Star shot 72% from the field and made nine of his 15 3-point attempts against the Jazz.

Joel Embiid (59 points)

Embiid came close to joining the exclusive 60-point club, dropping 59 against the Utah Jazz on November 13. He shot 19 of 28 from the field and made 20 of his 24 free throw attempts in the 105-98 win.

Embiid did it all in that contest, as he also had 11 rebounds, eight assists, seven blocks, and one steal.

Blazers shut down Lillard

Sports Brief also reported on the Blazers shutting down Lillard for the rest of the season.

The Portland star has been dealing with a calf issue since October, leading to this decision.

The Blazers decided to take that course of action as they are already out of playoff contention.
