Trae Young has reacted to the firing of Atlanta Hawks head coach Nate McMillan who was dismissed a few days ago following an underwhelming campaign with the Hawks.

The Hawks are 29-30 this season and sit eighth in the Eastern Conference. This was McMillan's third season as their coach.

McMillan replaced Lloyd Pierce in March of 2021, sparking an exciting bounce that saw them make a deep run into the playoffs. He led them to the Eastern Conference Finals that same year but lost to eventual NBA champions Milwaukee Bucks.

Last season they were knocked out by the Miami Heat.

However, they weren't able to build on that. They have endured an up-and-down campaign, struggling to climb the East standings. The team lost eight of 13 games heading into the All-Star break, a run that made his position untenable.

The 2022-23 season came with greater expectations for the Hawks after an offseason trade for Dejounte Murray. However, they failed to kick on. Young was honest with his assessment via SI.

"I've got nothing but love and respect for Nate, the type of person he is and things like that, so it's not the last time me and him are going to talk. I talk with all my coaches that I played for."

The 24-year-old is a two-time All-Star and ranks as the team’s top scorer with 26.7 points per game. He dismissed speculation he had a rocky relationship with McMillan.

“There’s a lot of moments that people really don’t understand that me and him have had and that’s OK. It will get brought up eventually. I know I don’t tell everybody everything. I kind of let y’all make up rumors about certain things about how I am and how my relationship is with certain people. I just play basketball," via NBA.

Assistant coach Joe Prunty will replace McMillan on an interim basis as they search for another coach. Former Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder has begun formal discussions about taking over, per the Athletic.

LeBron gifts jersey to Hawks fan 2 Chainz

Sports Brief earlier reported on LeBron James signing and gifting his game-worn jersey to rapper 2 Chainz on the basketballer's 38th birthday.

After the buzzer rang, the NBA star took off his No. 6 shirt, autographed it, and gave it to the rapper sitting courtside. The two shared a lovely embrace afterward.

James' dropped 47-10-9 against the Atlanta Hawks on the night as the superstar celebrated another year of life in front of his family.
