Wembanyama is touted as the greatest draft prospect since James is expected to go No. 1 in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The 7-foot-3 phenom captivated basketball fans during a two-game exhibition showcase in October in Las Vegas against Scoot Henderson's G League Ignite.

Wembanyama on James' comment

The Lakers heaped praise on the youngster when he first played in the US. The 19-year-old currently plays for the French side Metropolitans 92.

”We’re labeling like this unicorn thing—everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years,” James said. “But he’s more like an alien—no one has seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor.”

The future NBA star loved James’s words and ran with the extraterrestrial comparison, according to Sports Illustrated.

“First of all, I’m really glad he said that because I didn’t like to be called a unicorn,” Wembanyama said. “I like it because it’s just something not from this world. I like being called an alien, yeah. It’s really what I’m working to be—something unique and original.”

Wembanyama put up a show in Las Vegas. He created his shot off the dribble, ran the fast break, shot step-back 3s, finished above the rim, and used his 8-foot wingspan to wreak havoc at the rim, per ESPN.

Kevin Durant on Wembanyama

Sports Brief earlier reported on Brooklyn Nets' Kevin Durant expressing his thoughts about the generational prospect from France, saying he is excited to see Wembanyama in action.

There's a possibility the Brooklyn Nets superstar will play against him when he gets drafted next year. Wembanyama has already demonstrated that he belongs among the elite stars in the NBA.

"I’m impressed with him, I can’t wait to see him in the league, see how everything pans out for him in the league and I’m also looking forward to playing against him as well," Durant commented.
