Vaughn is Brooklyn's stabilizing leader
Despite the multi-game absences of superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, he navigated Brooklyn to an impressive 32-19 slate since Nash’s dismissal.
According to ESPN, that is the fifth-best record in the NBA during that period. Vaughn made history during that stretch, leading the Nets to 12 straight wins from December 7 to January 2.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is the second-longest winning streak by a head coach to take over midseason in the history of the NBA. Former Nets head coach Lawrence Frank had a 13-game unbeaten run during the 2003-2004 campaign.
Nets GM lauds Vaughn's impact
Nets general manager Sean Marks paid tribute to Vaughn in a statement announcing the deal, saying that he “has made an immediate and immeasurable impact” on their entire organization since becoming Brooklyn’s head coach.
Vaughn’s main goal now is to keep Brooklyn in playoff contention despite the departures of Durant and Irving. The Nets are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with a 34-24 record.
