  • Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has confirmed that Jordan Poole will start in place of the injured Stephen Curry
  • Curry will be out for several weeks with a leg injury
  • The defending NBA champions have struggled for consistency this season

The Golden State Warriors were dealt another blow as Stephen Curry was ruled out for several weeks with a leg injury sustained recently against the Dallas Mavericks.

Head coach Steve Kerr said Jordan Poole would start in place of Curry who will also miss the All-Star Game on February 19th in Salt Lake City. The two-time MVP suffered partial tears to the superior tibiofibular ligaments and the interosseous membrane.

Even with Curry on the floor, the Warriors have struggled for consistency. They have blown double-digit leads in several games which would have bumped their record which currently stands at 27-26, leaving them 8th in a chaotic Western Conference.

In 38 NBA games this season, Curry is averaging 29.4 points per game and he was looking to lead his team to another NBA Finals. However, the team has failed to gain some momentum.

They have just 29 games left this season and with the All-Star Game edging closer, time is slowly running out for them to secure at least a top 6 seed.

Poole to start in Curry's place

Although Poole has struggled of late, he has performed when called upon plenty of times this season. Donte DiVincenzo was expected to start so Poole could be the 6th man.

Nevertheless, Kerr said that Poole would start, according to NBC Sports.

"Jordan is going to start," Kerr said Sunday after Warriors practice. "We'll look at all the combinations and we have some options, but Jordan will be back in there."

The 23-year-old has started 30 games this season and has averaged 24.9 points per game in just over 30 minutes of play. He is underwhelming coming off the bench. In 23 games off the bench, he has averaged 14.7 points playing 26.8 minutes per game.

Kerr added that Poole plays better when he starts and plays over 30 minutes.

"When Jordan's playing 35 minutes, he's able to play a lot more free and that opens up a lot of things for his game because he's super explosive, super creative."

The defending NBA champions have five games before the 2023 NBA All-Star break, including games against the Thunder, Trail Blazers, Lakers, Wizards and Clippers.

Curry debunks load management

Sports Brief earlier reported on Curry explaining the true nature of load management in the NBA. The phenomenon has sparked heated debates among the fan base this season.

The two-time NBA MVP said it is not the player who decides if he wants to play, admitting that it is always the other way around.

Many star players usually miss games when their team is playing on back-to-back nights, many times inconveniencing fans who paid for tickets to come to watch them.
