Stephen Curry made his long-awaited return from injury for the Golden State Warriors but the team suffered another embarrassing defeat, this time to the shorthanded Phoenix Suns.

Curry scored a respectable 24 points but the Suns, who were without Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Cam Johnson, Landry Shamet and Cam Payne defeated the Warriors 125-113.

To put it into context, the Suns went into the game on the back of six straight defeats but stunned the defending NBA champions. Curry had 24, going 8 for 22 and 5 for 15 from three.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 29 points, followed by 27 from Jordan Poole. Steve Kerr's team were down by as many as 27 points, but a late 4th quarter rally wasn't enough to rescue the game, per NBC Sports.

The defending NBA champions have now lost three straight games, including to two sides considered lottery teams; the Detroit Pistons and the Orlando Magic.

Curry reacts to disappointing return

According to SI, Curry said he was excited to be back playing and although the team started well, they hit a snag later in the game.

"Obviously with the flow, the way that they were playing, the first quarter just felt good to be out there running with my guys, feeling the energy in the building again. Then kind of hit a little lull in the second and third quarters."

The 2022 NBA Finals MVP had missed NBA action for nearly a month with a shoulder injury sustained against the Indiana Pacers on December 14 2022.

The two-time MVP said he will try and build his rhythm and endurance as the Warriors embark on a five-game road trip as they attempt to bounce back.

"Come on this road trip and be able to continue to build my endurance back to where it was before the injury and hopefully get everyone on the same page of how we need to go through this road trip and kind of right the ship after these last three games."

Curry and the Warriors will play the Spurs, Bulls, Wizards, Celtics and Cavaliers in what is expected to be a difficult run given their current predicament.

Lakers player calls Curry unguardable

Sports Brief earlier reported on Lakers forward Juan Toscano Anderson saying his former Warriors teammate Curry is unguardable when he's in his zone.

Anderson was speaking about Curry's Game 4 performance in the 2022 NBA Finals where Curry scored an impressive 43 points to rescue the Warriors from going 3-1 down.

“So when he was doing that, I knew it was over. Cause when Steph’s in his zone, nobody can stop him. Can’t nobody guard him, bro. Nobody. Not a soul in the NBA can guard him.”
