Draymond Green Recounts Racial Abuse Experienced in 2022 NBA Finals vs Celtics

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has admitted he received racial abuse from some Boston Celtics fans during the 2022 NBA Finals.

Green had a back-and-forth with the passionate Celtics fans in the pulsating series. He had the last laugh though as the Warriors clinched the title at TD Garden in Game 6.

Green is known for his compelling personality, which has landed him in trouble on the court and off of it. His competitive nature has also driven the Warriors to four NBA titles in eight years.

Green was the clear villain in Games 3 and 4. During pre-game intros, he was met with a chorus of boos when his name was read out and when he touched the ball, per NBC Sports.

Green on racist abuse

Green said that he was shocked to hear racial slurs from the Celtics crowd and to make it worse he heard them while playing on the court, per the New York Times.

"The one time that caught me off guard was Boston in the finals because it was way nastier than I had ever seen before. I had never openly heard so many racist remarks while on the court."

Although Green is not one to shy away from trash talk, he felt bothered a bit by the slurs but said he grew numb to it and focused on winning.

"I understood that the important thing was not getting too deep in my feelings about it. I had to go win the championship, and that’s what I did."

Green's favorite basketball memory

Sports Brief earlier reported on Green explaining why the 2015 NBA title with the Warriors his favorite memory in basketball.

Although the Warriors were stunned by James and the Cavaliers in 2016, they went on to win three more titles, in 2017, 2018 and 2022.

He said winning the first title gave him a memorable feeling that he has never felt before. He stresses that he's never felt like that again.
