The Los Angeles Lakers struggles continued on Friday night when they narrowly lost to the Charlotte Hornets late in the game to extend their losing streak to three games.

Darvin Ham's team headed into the game with only three wins from their last nine games and were looking to bounce back from Thursday's 134-120 defeat in Sacramento.

It was another exceptional performance from James who turns 38 later this month. He scored a team-high 34 points and carried the scoring load with Anthony Davis out with injury.

LeBron loses shoe in crazy ending

The Lakers had possession with six seconds to go and down two. LeBron took the ball following an inbound pass from Patrick Beverly. Nothing could go wrong with the ball in LeBron's hands, right? Wrong!

As he drove to the basket, the shoe inexplicably came off as he tried to plant his foot on the court. He slid and fell to the hardwood.

“Obviously had our chances tonight. It was another, don’t say disappointing because I’m not disappointed in our effort. I’m not disappointed in our guys. Just you want to be out there and be able to win the game that’s right there for you," said James per LA Times.

However, he still managed to pass the ball to Dennis Schroder who took the shot in the corner but it didn't fall. The last minute was a truly wild way for the Lakers to lose in a must-win game, per CBS Sports.

LeBron scored 18 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and it was a tough loss for the Lakers considering they had erased a 16-point deficit.

LeBron's message to Wade

Sports Brief earlier reported on LeBron sending a lovely message to Dwyane Wade after his nomination to the 2023 Hall of Fame.

Wade and LeBron won two NBA championships together at Miami Heat across four years, before the 37-year-old returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James took to Twitter to send his friend a lovely message ahead of next year's induction ceremony.
