  • EFC 108 has 12 fights with multiple debutants making it the biggest fight card in 2023
  • Musa Setwaphe is looking to book a rematch with Bantamweight champ Nkazimulo Zulu
  • Shannon van Tonder failed to make weight and will be ineligible to earn the interim belt

Belt or no belt, a feud will be settled by the end of EFC 108.

The main event features Bantamweight rivals, interim champion Musa Setwaphe and Shannon van Tonder scrapping for the second time.

At the weigh-in, Van Tonder couldn’t wait to glove up, lunging at his opponent seconds after leaving the scales.

'The Terror' unfortunately did not make weight which means the fight is more for pride than EFC honours, as reported by EFCWorldwide.

After being separated, Mamelodi’s 'Bad News' had decisive words for Van Tonder:

"It's going to be finished when I put him to sleep."

The pair last fought at EFC 100, with Setwaphe getting the win by decision. Responding to his rival's words, Van Tonder said:

"I'm just disappointed at the weight cut but as far as preparation goes, I’m going to bury this guy six feet under."

Regarding his opponent's disappointment at not making weight, Setwaphe retorted:

"Even if you made weight, you were not going to get out there with the belt. Either you are going to get out there with a stretcher or you are going straight to the mortuary."

In the seven preliminary fights, there will be a total of nine men making their EFC debut. As for the five main card fights, three men will be entering the octagon for the first time.

EFC VP of Talent, Graeme Cartmell elaborated on the significance, saying:

"This card was designed to allow the next generation to come through. It is a testament to how good the fighters are in South Africa and Africa that we get these really hot amateurs able to showcase themselves."

The fight of the undercard is the Catchweight bout between East Rand's Stefan Pretorius, looking to kickstart his career against Congolese Shadrack Nsua.

EFC's growth is exponential

Sports Brief recently reported on the origins and growth of the EFC since being founded in 2009.

For the past 14 years, the EFC has entertained fight fans across the African continent and beyond.

Dricus du Plessis is the highest-profile export and is ranked fifth in the UFC’s Middleweight division.
