Mexico’s Yair Rodriguez Claims UFC Gold With Triangle Choke at UFC 284

Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett competed in the first of two title fights at UFC 284, as both men looked to claim the Interim Featherweight title.

The belt was on the line after the current champion, Alexander Volkanovski, temporarily left the division to fight for the Lightweight belt.

Rodriguez started the first round stronger, looking light on his feet and finding his range. The Mexican fighter did solid work in the opening few minutes, but the American needed one big shot to turn the tide.

Emmett ended the round strong after dropping Rodriguez and attempting to finish the fight.

Round 2

The second round saw both fighters landing beautiful shots as they attempted to knock each other out. The fight could have gone either way but it was Rodriguez who took control of the fight.

The Mexican landed brutal shots which dropped Emmett, but the American attempted to take control on the ground.

Rodriguez showed great composure on his back, as he didn’t panic and hooked in a triangle choke to beat Emmett.

Rodriguez forced Emmett to tap out and secured himself the Interim Featherweight championship.

Australia's fighters win big

UFC headed to Australia for UFC 24 and the action lived up to the hype, Sports Brief reported.

Justin Tafa, Jimmy Crute and Jack Della Maddalena secured big wins in front of the home fans, with Tafa needing just a minute to win his bout.

Crute and Della Maddalena also sent the crowd into delirium with their victories.

Makhachev defeats Volkanovski

The main event of UFC promised to be one to watch.

The Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev put his title on the line against Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, Sports Brief reported.

The two fighters are the number one and number two ranked pound-for-pound fighters in the world and wanted to settle who was the best once and for all.
