Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. had already secured spots in the starting lineup by virtue of them being the leading vote-getters during Phase 1 of the Ballot in the American League and National League, respectively.
The rest of the elected starters for this year’s Midsummer Classic were announced on Thursday night.
American League starters
The starting infielders for the American League in the 93rd edition of the All-Star Game are first baseman Yandy Diaz, second baseman Marcus Semien, third baseman Josh Jung, and shortstop Corey Seager.
Semien, Jung, and Seager are all members of the AL West-leading Texas Rangers, while Diaz plays for the Tampa Bay Rays, who own the best record in the American League.
Jonah Heim is another Rangers player who will start in this year’s All-Star Game. He beat Baltimore’s Adley Rutschmann in the voting to land the starting spot behind the plate, per MLB.com.
AL’s outfield is also stacked with Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout, Tampa Bay Rays’ Randy Arozarena and New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge securing starting spots.
Judge’s status for the All-Star Game remains uncertain, though, as he is still dealing with a toe injury.
National League starters
The starting infielders for the National League in this year’s Midsummer Classic are Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, and Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia.
Joining Acuna Jr. in the outfield for the National League are Dodgers star Mookie Betts and Arizona Diamondbacks rookie sensation Corbin Carroll.
