NFLOakland A’s Reach Agreement to Build New Stadium on Tropicana Site in Las Vegas
- The Oakland Athletics have reached an agreement to build a new stadium in Las Vegas
- They plan to build a new ballpark on the Tropicana hotel site along the Las Vegas strip
- The A’s target is to have the stadium built in time for the 2027 MLB season
The Oakland Athletics’ move to Las Vegas is one step closer to reality.
They have reached an agreement with Bally's and Gaming & Leisure Properties (GLPI) to build a potential new stadium on the Tropicana hotel site, which is located along the Las Vegas Strip.
Bally's Corp. announced on Monday the possibility of a 30,000-seat stadium being built on the 35-acre site.
A's asking for public funds
The Athletics’ project is expected to cost about $1.5 billion, and they are asking for nearly $400 million from the Nevada Legislature in public funds. The proposal could be put on a vote this week, per ESPN.
The A's previously signed an agreement to build their stadium on Tropicana Avenue. That site, however, was on the other side of Interstate 15, which runs alongside the Strip.
The A’s were expected to ask the Nevada Legislature for $500 million in public support for that proposed 49-acre site.
A's president Dave Kaval issued a statement regarding the new agreement, saying:
"We are excited about the potential to bring Major League Baseball to this iconic location. We are thrilled to work alongside Bally's and GLPI and look forward to finalizing plans to bring the Athletics to Southern Nevada."
Kaval added that he hopes to break ground on the A’s new ballpark next year and open the stadium in time for the 2027 MLB season.
Where will the A's play?
The Athletics have a lease at Oakland Coliseum through the year 2024.
The A’s could play the 2025 and '26 MLB seasons at Las Vegas Ballpark, the home of their Triple-A affiliate Aviators.

FootballThe Tropicana opened in 1957, drawing A-listers such as Sammy Davis Jr. in its heyday. It has been overshadowed, however, by nearby mega-resorts such as Mandalay Bay, the MGM Grand, and New York-New York.
With the agreement in place, the Trop will likely meet the fate of other historic hotels that are no longer around in Las Vegas.
