Steph Curry may want to consider making a career change.
The Golden State Warriors star drained an 18-foot eagle putt on the final hole to capture the American Century Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
It was the 35-year-old’s first title in the celebrity golf tournament.
Curry delivers with ACC eagle
Curry needed to make an eagle on the par-5 18th hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course to win the tournament. He did just that, sinking a closing eagle to grab the biggest victory of his golfing career, per Yahoo Sports.
He tossed his hat into the air after the putt dropped and ran straight into the arms of his wife, Ayesha, to celebrate the win.
He explained in an interview why he was so delighted with the victory, saying:
"I don't do this for a living, so it's something you dream about. I've been playing in this tournament for almost a decade, and now I've got some hardware to show for it. It's pretty special."
The tournament was played using a modified version of the Stableford scoring system. Players receive six points for an eagle, three points for a birdie, one point for a par, and minus-2 points for a double bogey or worse, per ESPN.
Curry finished the tournament with 75 points, two ahead of former pro tennis player, Mardy Fish, who won this event back in 2020. Fish needed a birdie to tie Curry’s total, but he only managed to make par at the 18th.
Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer: Is CR7 leaving Manchester United and which clubs are likely to acquire him?
FootballIt was only fitting the Warriors star won this event, given the excellent play he showed over the weekend. He grabbed the headlines on Saturday when he sank an improbable hole-in-one on the 152-yard, par-3 seventh hole.
Curry makes history at ACC
Curry made history with the victory, becoming the first Black winner of the tournament.
He also became the fifth active athlete to capture the title and the first to win the event since then-Tennessee Titans kicker, Al del Greco, took home the trophy back in 2000.
Curry’s first-place prize of $125,000 will be donated to charity because the NBA star is an amateur golfer.
Curry sends warning
Sports Brief recently reported on Curry sending a warning to the rest of the NBA ahead of the 2023-24 season.
After the Warriors acquired veteran, Chris Paul, in a trade, Curry said that their only goal next season is to win.
