  • Besiktas Head Coach Senol Gunes has appeared to question Dele Alli's form and consistency in Turkey
  • Alli was handed a lifeline when he moved to Turkey on a season-long loan deal from Everton
  • Despite a promising start to life in Turkey, his form has dipped in recent weeks, reviving questions about a player who showed so much potential

Dele Alli's career has taken another disappointing turn, after his current coach declared he was way off the expected standard.

Alli has suffered a quick reversal of fortunes despite being one of the brightest prospects in the English Premier League a few years back.

He left Tottenham Hotspur and joined Everton in January, but failed to break through in Frank Lampard's side. The Toffees released him on loan to Turkish giants Besiktas, where he has seemingly yet to rediscover his form.

Besiktas Head Coach Senol Gunes said:

"Let’s not discuss Dele Alli as a player, but he is below expectations in terms of efficiency," as quoted by Talk Sports.

Alli started his spell in Turkey brightly, where he scored his first league goal in over a year in his second game for Besiktas. However, he suffered a hamstring injury and after his full recovery, has been substituted in every game he has played so far.

Alli: from grace to grass

Sports Brief has previously reported that Everton midfielder Dele Alli is set to quit the Premier League as he is poised to join Turkish side Besiktas, either on loan or a permanent deal, in a sad turn of events for the player.

Once tipped to be one of the best players in world football, Alli is now facing a real prospect of seeing his stint in English football come to an end.

A former MK Dons man, Alli initially came into the limelight at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino.

He famously scored a wonder goal against Crystal Palace in 2016 - a strike that was taken as a prelude of better things to come. But against the odds, Alli’s career in North London stagnated under Jose Mourinho, and he was eventually shipped to Everton.
