SuperSport United Part Ways With Coach Kaitano Tembo, Andre Arendse to Oversee Squad Until End of the Season

• SuperSport United has parted ways with Kaitano Tembo after four years in charge of the Pretoria based club
• Andre Arendse will take over as the interim coach until the end of the current Premier Soccer League season
• SuperSport United have only won two of their last ten games in the DStv Premiership and were knocked out of the cups as well

Kaitano Tembo has become the latest Premier Soccer League coach to lose his job this season.

SuperSport United and Tembo have parted ways by mutual agreement, after a string of disappointing results.

Matsatsantsa a Pitori have won just two of their last 10 DStv Premiership fixtures, and were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by TTM this past weekend, iDiskiTimes reported.

Tembo has been at the club for the past 23 years, first as a player and then as an assistant coach. He took over as manager in July 2018. During his time in charge, he oversaw 135 games, winning 55 games, losing 42 and earning 38 draws.

SuperSport United confirmed the news on social media, adding that Assistant Coach, Andre Arendse, will serve as the interim coach until the end of the season.

The club also released a statement confirming the decision.

“Kaitano is the epitome of the dedicated club man. Very few players transition into coaching at the same club where they played. We want to thank Kaitano for the many years that he served SuperSport United in various capacities,” CEO, Stan Matthews said.

Earlier in the day, Soccer Laduma reported that Tembo was possibly on his way out from the Pretoria based side. Rumours have done the rounds during the week that Benni McCarthy could be hired as the new coach of Matsatsansa. McCarthy has been without a job since he was let go by AmaZulu.

Benni McCarthy is no longer the coach of AmaZulu Football Club. AmaZulu confirmed earlier today that they had parted ways with the 44-year-old, but that the decision was an amicable one, Sports Brief reported.

Benni joined the KwaZulu-Natal based side in December 2020 and led them to second spot in the DStv Premiership. When he joined the club, they were languishing in 13th, iDiski Times reported. Benni also led the team to their first CAF Champions League campaign.

This season has been a different story, though, as AmaZulu have drawn 14 games and sit in ninth position. The record for most draws in a season is 20 and belongs to Swallows FC. In explaining why the club let go of McCarthy, Chairman Sandile Zungu explained that the Usuthu needed change.
