Nigerians Attack CAF, Referee Over Officiating During Nigeria vs Morocco AWCON Semifinal Clash

Nigerians are unimpressed with the officiating of Morocco vs Nigeria clash at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

Both countries faced off in an epic semifinal encounter clash at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat as the winner headed straight to the final.

The fierce battle had ended 0-0 at halftime, but three minutes into the second half Halimatu Ayinde was shown a straight red following a foul on a Moroccan player after VAR intervened.

The 10-woman Super Falcons however took the lead in the 62nd minute following an own goal, but the hosts restored parity as Sanaa Mssoudy tucked home from close range to make it 1-1.

Barely five minutes later, the Nigerians were reduced further after Rasheedat Ajibade was shown a straight red, meaning the Super Falcons would finish the game with nine women.

The match eventually went into penalties and it was the hosts that won 5-4 to set up a clash with South Africa in the final.

However, Nigerians have taken to social media to lambast the Confederation of African football as well as the match officials, saying they all wanted Morocco to win.

A fan wrote:

Another fan posted a picture showing a dangerous tackle against a Nigerian player and added:

“Shame on you CAF. Thanks for using VAR to ruin women's football in Africa. Against Zambia and as well against Nigeria. If this was a Nigerian, it would have been a Third Red Card. But VAR never called the referee. Hope CAF legalized the green lasers used on Super Falcons.”

One said:

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that South Africa qualified for the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a nervy 1-0 win over Southern African rivals Zambia at the Stade Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
