Osayi Samuel urged Nigerians to continue to believe in the squad, saying the team will spring more positive surprises.

He told NFF TV, as per Soccernet:

“Keep believing in us, we are still a young group.
“I think the more we play together the chemistry will get better. I think we will surprise so many people.”

The Super Eagles will have the opportunity to give their fans something to cheer about when they travel to Sierra Leone for the return leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

Omeruo hails current Super Eagles

Meanwhile, Kenneth Omeruo has disclosed that the current Super Eagles players are better than those under late coach Stephen Keshi who won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Interestingly, the defender was also part of the Nigerian team that won the 2013 AFCON title, and since then, the Super Eagles have not laid their hands on the diadem.

In that squad, Nigeria had the likes of legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Emmanuel Emenike, Sunday Mba and Victor Moses.

Amunike wants Eagles job

Sports Brief earlier reported that Emmanuel Amunike has stated emphatically that he is interested in coaching the Super Eagles adding that he is capable of changing the fortunes of the three-time African champions.

Amunike was one of the biggest Nigerian players in history as he played for Barcelona and was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 African Cup of Nations.

Amunike explained that he wants to be in charge of the Super Eagles on his own and not as an assistant.
